Electric Vehicle Lithium Battery Monitoring & Control Circuit Prototype will be designed by ERICOM as a joint R&D Project with TOFAS

With the agreement signed between the Ericom (ERICO) and TOFAS (TOASO), "Lithium Ferrite Phosphate - LFP" based battery monitoring & control system specific for electric vehicles will be designed by ERICOM.

At first stage, the R & D team of Ericom and Tofaş will constitute a joint project group to design electronic battery monitoring and control systems and software for LFP battery pack for EV. After the prototype design and test, both parties will decide for later stages of the project which is to design thermal and power management functions of the complete battery pack to make flexible enough for each model of produced car.

During the project , "Battery Technologies Laboratory" which is founded by Ericom at the Energy Institute of Istanbul Technical University will be facilitated to provide electric vehicle battery design and testing facilities with the contribution of Tofaş.

Lithium-based batteries are much more suitable in terms of the energy density (energy storage capacity per unit volume and weight) than all other alternative technologies .The other alternative options are in Lithium-ion chemistry; Lithium Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Manganese Oxide and Lithium Nickel Oxide are not well suitable for automotive technologies because the weak security parameters, as well as the operating temperature and the charge / discharge cycle number of reasons to be low compared to Lithium Ferrite Phosphate so they are less preferred.

During the state of discharge and charge each of the cell`s current / voltage parameters must be controlled and “balanced” real time therefore, micro-processor controlled hardware and embedded software which is named “Battery Management System – BMS” need to be implemented for all lithium based battery serials.

Ericom is designing and implementing Battery Management System electronics hardware and software for lithium-based cells obtained by the serial connection of various voltage values. As a company which has promoted the Turkish industry can compete with other countries in R & D strategy,

ERICOM developed its own design team consisting only Turkish engineers and is in the verge of becoming a leading company for the most important part of Electrical Vehicle systems design and battery manufacturing.

After the Initial public offering of Ericom (June 2011), MCAP of the shares listed in ISE is around 9,2 million Euros (12 Million USD). Ericom was listed 3.55 TL per share, and the current share prices are 4.14 TL.
